(How old is Barbie anyway?*)<BR/><BR/>Though the concept of fashion was already old by then.<BR/><BR/>Its no wonder that my job prospects are grim now.<BR/><BR/>I'm older <B><I>and</I></B> disabled. Employers rather would rather hire anybody else who's <I>young, fit, <B>cheap and disposable</B></I>. (It doesn't matter if s/he doesn't know anything yet. They can always train him/her.)<BR/><BR/>The world has become a place for the fit and the pretty. (Its one thing to get that way when you've already <B><I>got</I></B> a job [a little <B><I>gray at the temples</I></B> makes a male executive look <B><I>distinguished</I></B> {but only <B><I>male</I></B> executives (that's what keeps <B><I>Clairol</I></B> and all those companies in business.)}])<BR/><BR/>People are scared of getting old, are scared of reminders of their <B><I>own</I></B> mortality.<BR/><BR/>*) I mean, <B><I>Barbie</I></B> didn't invent <B><I>cutting on the bias</I></B> (that started in the 1920s and 30s) or <B><I>girdles and corsets</I></B> (which started back in neolithic times, but, to be fair, corseting was not appropriated by females for fashion until the 15th century by the French because people had insane concepts of what constituted feminine beauty.)Charles-A.
