msb-0198 A Slender Glass Thread (part "deux":-)

msb-0198 A Slender Glass Thread (part "deux":-)

Feedback comes first, so...

I'm back to the essay form to continue what I'd started in the previous episode.

First...

Remember back around episode "msb-0072 'Feeling allright..." I told "Have Myelin" [ http://wordsalads.blogspot.com/ ] that I'd tell Apple that iTunes needed closed captioning.

Well guess what the cat dragged in? Closed captioning for iTunes.

Now I have to figure out what the production of closed captions is like. (Its one thing for the darn thing to finally do it, its another thing for me to figure out how to tell it to do it. [ I'se gots me some reading to do...])

Next....

"Alors les Francophones, vous attendez apres quoi exactement? L'offre est encore bonne. Joignez vous a MSBPodcast.com et creez un podcast en Francais"

"Dann die Deutschen warten Sie, nach denen genau? Das Angebot ist noch gut. Verbinden Sie hat Ihnen MSBPodcast.com und Verursachen Sie ein podcast auf Deutsch."

Feed Me comes third, so...

Do you have a therapy, product, good or service that is of interest to MSers?

Consider advertising on this podcast.

Reminders on this segment only cost $0.03 per reminder per download of an episode. (A $30CPM targeted at MSers.)

It can/should lead to a full ad, in text, audio or video, which costs $3.00 per download.

That sounds expensive until you do the math and realize that if nobody downloads it it costs you nothing, unlike print, where you often can't even get an ad in to the specialized journals, or radio or TV where you'd just be wasting your money with the 0.0833% MSers rate of return. (That's about six times "below" the level of "statistical noise".)

But MSBPodcast is 100% in your market, and you only pay per download of your material.

No play, no pay.

Reach the MSers who would buy your therapy, product, good or service, with-out having to waste your advertising money on anyone who is "not" interested...

"Thesis:"

TCP/IP is bringing about programming that is an addition to, not a competition with, the landscape of media.

---- "Smoothie King" by: "Smallfish" http://www.smallfishadventures.com/

"Synthesis:"

I don't feel threatened by, nor do I feel myself to be any threat to, the oligopoly that's is scrabbling for the scarce resource, the air waves.

MS garners no air time because it is much too small a demographic to be worthy of their attention. They have too much invested in their own infrastructure to devote any time to it. Airtime is considered a precious resource and 0.0833% frankly isn't worth the bother.

I am not in competition with them nor are they in any competition with MSBPodcast.com because TCP/IP and asynchronous podcasting/podcatching is capable of handling the traffic of both without hindrance.

The power of the asynchronous TCP/IP is enormous.

Traditional mass media "demands" your presence.

If you're not watching what they want, when they want, they feel "you're" to blame. (In fact they had a proposal to make you watch the ads regardless of whether you wanted to or not. Its still out there too.)

Podcasting, the medium I'm using, merely request your presence, at your convenience.

You see ads when you want them. If you're not interested, they aren't in your face.

By using podcasting to transmit the material you can pick it up whenever you are most receptive (and that's what and when and what the advertisers really want anyway [so I'm charging a premium for keeping their material on my servers.])

The material can be as detailed as the advertisers want and of whatever form they need. PDFs, audio or video, its all the same to me. (I can tell you that if I had been able to get a video of the self-injection techniques, instead of having to figure it out myself from the pictures on the box, [wrongly as a nurse explained to me months later,] I might have spared myself a great deal of pain and I might hate self-injection less [though I still feel its the wrong method to use for people who are using it in a chronic situation.])

"Conclusion:"

TCP/IP is bringing about programming that is an addition to, not a competition with, the landscape of media.

We have different spheres of influence, traditional media being on the artificially valued air waves, podcasting being on the asynchronous internet.

We should be using the medium that is appropriate to what we each are trying to accomplish.

I loathe traditional media. They only tell us what they want us to hear. Thank God for the internet!

Thank heavens for people like you who get it rather that just sit there feeling dissatisfied but not quite knowing why.

I listen/watch traditional media but I get my information from web sites and other podcasts (like the "The Science Show" from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation which had some interesting tings to say about inflammation [an immune system reaction], some genetic, [and therefore historical/evolutionary] causes for it and some new directions that research is taking that has some interesting takes on various diseases [like macular degeneration, Alzheimer's {and I think that might have somethings to say about MS as well.}])

Bet you don't find out about it watching the evening news.
