The main problem with the record industry is the lack of proper provenance, and the solution is to label things properly as to who is actually getting your money, and for what, when you purchase a particular album, and in the appropriate proportion.

One of the areas of dissatisfaction on both sides of the music buying fence is that the rights, and therefore the potential money trails from a purchase, are not clearly spelled out.

That means that every CD cover, or MP3 attached image, would be generated by computer "showing the proportion" of who owns how much of whatever you thought you bought.

This would be mandatory and you would know exactly what you bought, who you bought it from, what rights they allow you, what rights they reserve to themselves and what rights you actually have.

Rather than recall all existing records, the information could/should/would be kept on the CDDB, which already keeps all of the track names and album cover art.

No more wondering about it.

You'd know if you were buying an artists album or if your money was going to a bunch of dentists in suburban L.A.

"And" you'd know "exactly" what it was that you'd bought.

I suspect that nobody'd try to pull that P2P, BitTorrent crap on an artists records again if they knew exactly what it was that they'd bought, and from whom.

I think that you'd be surprised at the number of people who are impacted by every dollar you give for that tune.

Not to mention knowing "what your rights as a consumer actually are."

And you might want to turn down the power at this next song, because the bass is awesome but it could rattle your ear bugs right out of your ear canals.
